Specialising in maritime titles, Avid is an independent publisher from Merseyside in the north-west of Britain, started by David Roberts in 1990. David is an ex-Cammell Laird apprentice turned Lecturer, publisher, writer and broadcaster, and it is his Cammell Laird connections that got him started with his first two books about the once world famous shipyard on the Birkenhead side of the River Mersey, opposite Liverpool.
Naturally, being from Merseyside and from a maritime background, Avid's maritime books and DVDs have very strong connections with what was once the greatest seaport in the world.

We also offer a DVD that shows the history of shipbuilding on Merseyside at the world famous Cammell Laird Shipyard .
David Roberts has been a regular contributor on Maritime affairs for BBC Radio Merseyside for many years and also gives talks on maritime affairs.
From a shipbuilding family, David has always had a soft spot for the Cammell Laird shipyard and the River Mersey. The books and DVDs that Avid produces are testimony to the place in maritime history that Liverpool, Birkenhead and the River Mersey will always command.
