Clan Line in Photographs
It
is almost a quarter of a century since the Centenary of the founding, in
1878 by
Charles Cayzer, of what was to become, in 1890, Clan Line Steamers
Ltd. Since then all the ships with the familiar two red bands on a
black funnel have disappeared from the oceans along with the company, but
they are not forgotten.
Clan
Line is still very much spoken about in today's shipping circles. Many of
the senior officials in ports and in the shipping industry worldwide have
fond memories of the company and its ships.
As
far as we are aware there has been no definitive history written about the
whole company,
generally known throughout the last century as Cayzer Irvine & Co.
Ltd.
These now very rare three volumes of old photographs compiled from the collections of
Bob Briscoe and Tony Blackler (both ex-company employees)
will, we hope, go
some way to revive old memories.
